Las Vegas Neon Boneyard

I don’t care if the kids go without shoes, do whatever you can to visit the Neon Boneyard if you happen to find yourself in the bright light city of Las Vegas.

It’s fabulous by day, when you can take a self-guided tour that offers lots of insight into the history of Las Vegas and Las Vegas Casinos and their crazy theming and extravagant exteriors…. and it's also fabulous by night as more than a dozen vintage signs have been restored and light up the night sky with not only razzle, but also a lot of dazzle.

The Boneyard has been saving decommissioned neon signs since the 1990’s, and has a collection of more than 300 signs, including casinos, restaurants, bars and other neon encrusted small businesses.

The Boneyard visitors center is housed in the circa 1961 La Concha motel lobby, an incredible Googie shell shaped building designed by architect Paul R Williams. It stands beside the restored giant silver slipper circa 1950 that sparkles and rotates by the road outside. Have I died and gone to heaven!?

Other signs in the Boneyard collection include The Liberace Museum, The Debbie Reynolds casino, the Moulin Rouge and the Tam ’O’Shanter Motel.

At night, in a separate lot, the museum hosts an interactive light and sound show, screening vintage Lass Vegas footage, casting animated projections on to signs, and all with a glitzy retro soundtrack - also not to be missed.

By night, or by day the museum is definitely worth the price of admission, and your ticket fee goes towards restoring more signs.
