El Indio de Tijuana is a wildly happy yellow and orange striped taco stand in the shape of a giant root beer barrel!
Historically, the root beer came before the tacos, as this spectacular structure began its life as a roadside A&W root beer stand.
A&W root beer has a rich history of roadside stands, dating back to the 1920’s.
The El Indio de Tijuana still utilizes the original walk-up window, with a covered seating area next to the giant barrel.
There are a handful of giant root beer barrels still standing, mostly in California, in various states of reimagination or disrepair.
