It’s called "The Waiomina Boot”, and it stands outside a strip mall called the Waimea Center on The Big Island of Hawaii.

The 8 foot tall cowboy boot was installed in 2008 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of three Waimea cowboys winning the National Steer Roping Championship. That’s right …. they won it in 1908, at the Cheyenne Frontier Days in Wyoming. (that’s Waiomina in Hawaiian) Those three chaps put Hawaiian cowboys on the map, and so they are remembered with this giant and very colorful boot.

The boot was designed by Ross Lampshire, a Hawaii loving cowboy artist with a penchant for giant fibreglass boots, complete with giant spurs.

It’s a unique tribute to three rootin’ tootin’ local heroes. If you can’t say it in words — then say it in footwear. yee ha
