The happiest neon sign ever sits on top of a Chevrolet dealership in Los Angeles.
It all began in 1921 when Winslow B Felix opened Felix Chevrolet.
Two years earlier his friend Pat Sullivan had created a cartoon cat named Felix.
Given that these two things shared the named Felix, the two friends decided to cross promote their brands - that car dealership promoted the cat, and the cat promoted the car dealership. It was a match made in cartoon cat heaven.
Winslow sold the car dealership in 1957. The new owner loved the Felix the cat connection so much that he commissioned a giant 3-sided neon Felix the cat sign to be built on top of the dealership.
Felix Chevrolet is still a thriving business and also a must-see roadside attraction.
