High on a hill above the Yucca Valley sits the 5-acre oddity known as Desert Christ Park, a rugged desert park dotted with life sized white concrete Jesus themed sculptures. It’s ker-ay-zee!
As you wander along a tangle of rough paths you will see a life-sized white concrete 12 apostles, a few angels, Mary, a 125-ton depiction of the Last Supper, and a 15-foot tall 3-ton sculpture of Jesus, to name a few.
Desert Christ Park was established in 1951, and all the sculptures were created by artist Antone Martin between 1951 and 1961 when he died.
In addition to this biblical garden of kitsch, the grounds are home to an absolutely beautiful midcentury stone chapel. You have to walk right across the park to find it, but it is well worth the trek.
It’s free to visit Desert Christ, but donations are accepted - remember Jesus will be watching - and possibly a few snakes.
