Sitting quietly on Wilshire Boulevard inexplicably sit ten panels from the Berlin Wall. The 40-foot section of the wall is apparently the largest section of the Berlin Wall outside of Europe.
The panels sit in a public space and can be accessed very easily on foot, or in a drive by situation.
The ten Berlin Wall segments were brought to Los Angeles in 2009 by the Wende Museum, to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall.
One panel was painted by a Berlin street artist before the panels were shipped, and then nine established and emerging artists were engaged to paint the remaining panels after they arrived in Los Angeles.
The result has a moving and eery effect, we loved the art, and this historical and artistic monument apparently still attracts hundreds of visitors each week.
